DRESDEN FILES FTW!!!! Has anyone else read the Dresden Files??? Though theyre not exactly classic, theyre definitely my favorite current reads. Theyre not only absolutely hilarious, but exciting, insightful, graphically morbid, and well.. very hot.

Theyre about the only wizard in the Chicago yellow pages. He works as a private investigator as well as a consultant for the Chicago PD for cases that.. dont add up. Apparently, there are vampires, were-wolves, kick-ass demons, fey folk, and magical practicioners running around our world, but nobody wants to deal with them.

One of the other things I love about them is that besides being well written, the individual plots actually build on each other. Theyre not like those random mystery novels where events are almost completely unrelated apart from the main characters. The plot is getting increasingly complex and exciting as I await the 12th book.

Jim Butcher has said he has loved the lotr and narnia series since he was a boy, and you get a lot of inside jokes of this nature in the books. here's the link to his website: CHECK IT OUT!!!!

Lol, anyway. Aside from that: Harry Potter is INDISPUTABLY AWESOME, and so is the INkheart trilogy. But aside from those, I end up going to the classics. Celtic mythology, faerie lore, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Beowulf, Arthurian Legends , Brothers Grimm fairy tales, etcetera. Actually, Im also really into creature tales, urban ghost/horror legends, and fanfic. Speaking of which- WHY DONT WE HAVE A FANFIC SECTION??? (or do we o.o)

luv U all^^

In the JRR Tolkien forum you will find a sort of Fan Fic challenge thread to rewrite a segment of CS Lewis in Tolkien's style and vice versa  . Nothing Kinky ;) .

By the way Hobbitz, I used to watch The Dresden Files on TV. I enjoyed it while it lasted 8-) ; it had a great concept. I haven't read the books though.

I also have simiar interests from Potter to Arthur ,Celtic and Norse Mytholgy etc. .

I think the Inkheart Trilogy is awesome! Cornelia Funke is a great writer! I hope they make more than just the first book into movies :P

Zackira- was the INkeart movie good? I never saw it.. I was kinda put off by the casting, especially for Farid. He looked (and dressed) like the dudes they used to play Native Americans in those western movies in the 70s. *shudder*

I actually have not seen the hole movie, but the reason why I hope they make more into movies, is because people start reading the books when they have seen the movies! And I do want people to read them!

Anyway, I hope to see the entire movie once, even though it might not be so good.

Next to Tolkien my favorite series is the Ender cycle from Orson Scott Card.

Nice, I'm a big fan of the Ender Series as well. As an aside, have you read the Shadow series as well? I still put Ender's Game at the top of my list for the series, but after that I really enjoyed Ender's Shadow and the following books regarding Bean and the other students from Battle School.

In an even less related comment. I used Tolkiens comment on applicability as a good reason why I can enjoy Ender so much, with his very "Christen" author. And also enjoy Hitchhikers Guide with it's very "Athiest" author as well.

All around Ender was a very, very good series.

In a very related comment. I still am hoping for a movie of Ender's Game. Although I know I will likely be very disappointed.

One of the greatest and sadly missed. Be sure to read his other works. Not as well known but tears down your face funny.

I remember reading his Dirk Gently holistic detective during a flight and being asked by the stewardess if I could keep the noise down.....I couldn't

I loved some of the truly horrible analagies.

The ships hung in the air much in the way that bricks don't.
