The moment when you know that your priorities might need looking at. But then again maybe not.

When I heard that the World would be coming to an end on December 21st 2012, my first thought was, s*** does that mean I don't get to see 'There and Back Again'??

  3. What do you mean obsessed? This is perfectly normal isn't it? Isn't everyone obsessed by Tolkien? If not whats wrong with them that's the important question.

  4. I agree with Jason in this one LOL

  6. If everyone in the world was obsessed with The Hobbit, there would be no time left for war, rape or repeats of Everybody Loves Raymond. Hobbit Obsession is a genuine force for Good. (Mind you, following that reasoning, we would all die of starvation eventually --- but we are talking about The Hobbit!)

  7. Oh btw you know when you're totally obessed by the Hobbit when you spend nearly all your (precious) spare time on Hobbit Movie Forums, and this when you just know you're going to hate what PJ does with it; indeed, hate it no matter how good it is, because you know in your heart Tolkien would too.

well I knew I had to stop a dangerous obsession when I started perming my leg hair.

    Posted 6 months ago #
  9. What the hell is perming your leg hair got to do with The Hobbit, oh Hairy Legs? My Gawd! You've gone completely barking mad, girl! (Now, perming one's foot wigs is imminently respectable).

  10. lol.
You know you're obsessed when you talk about LOTR and the Hobbit ALL the time to your friends, then feel like you're going on and on because most of them are only mildly obsessed, so you get on the Hobbit Movie Forum and go on about it with people who are all as obsessed as you are and in the same situation as yourself (needing people to obsess with).
Also when you find yourself memorizing the poems and having them stuck in your head all day.
When all you want for Christmas has something to do with LOTR.

  11. You are certainly a sick person, Jana --- and you're very welcome here.

I bought a dvd player ONLY so I could watch LOTR. and for Christmas I want some short pants. in tartan. But dont tell Jason because I might get the Campbell tartan and I dont think he would appreciate a Sassenach wearing his tartan troosers.

  13. Well just don't get royal Stewart, the English always go for it and what good will it do you hiding in the hillsides to be dressed in bright red? No, Campbell tartan is the best of all tartans. Just make sure you get the real thing and don't let some sassenach peddle you nonsense. Here's what the current Chief of my Clan has to say on the matter;

"...the only tartans which I recognize are, firstly, the one you see me and my wife wearing, which goes under various names, such as ordinary Campbell, Ancient Campbell, etc., and all members of our clan who are not specifically identified with [the Houses of Breadalbane, Cawdor [or] Loudoun are entitled to wear it.
    Campbell of Breadalbane--fine [to wear].
    Campbell of Cawdor--fine.
    Campbell of Loudoun--fine.
Campbell of Glenlyon--I have never heard of it.
Campbell of Loch Awe-this is plain ridiculous, as we are all Campbells of Loch Awe originally. - Apart from anything else, I have never heard of a Campbell of Loch Awe tartan, nor do I wish to do so.
THERE IS NO DRESS CAMPBELL --repeat! repeat! repeat! There is NO HUNTING CAMPBELL. There is NO CAMPRELL RED. There is NO CAMPBELL - SIMPSON.
There are no Campbell cheques, other than commercial ones...
'All Campbells with the exception of the three principal septs [the Houses of Breadalbane, Cawdor and Loudoun] should wear plain undifferentiated Campbell for evermore and not get confused by peddlers of this [other] material that comes under all sorts of guises.

    Yours ever,
    Your Kinsman and Chief,
    Argyll"

So there you have it from the horses mouth as it were Argyll himself.(I danced with his wife once, the Duchess!) Go for Black Watch (Ancient Campbell) is my recommendation as its easy to ge hold of, is associatied with Scotlands oldest regiment (obviously a Campbell one).

Tartan trousers are a no mind you- you will get beaten up in Scotland for tartan trousers you know.

    short pants AND tartan, cool.

    Posted 6 months ago #
  16. Yup, green and black, thats the one, and of course its your fav, it Campbell tartan its the best of all!

Bay City Rollers fans get an exception for tartan trousers out of sympathy.

No trousers in that pic, as is right and proper. But pants and a kilt? Thats breaking several laws that is! Manlyness amongst them.

    Posted 6 months ago #
  17. trousers with a kilt? How dare they.... Thats down right disrespectful. Ye wear a kilt to let the boys swing free, not be all kept up like in trousers. AGAIN ... HOW DARE THEY! LOL

I know that I'm obsessed with The Hobbit when :
    - One of my concerns right now is that December 2013 is far far away and I hope nothing happens to me so I get to see the films
    - My browser states that I have visited this site 1085 times before (I began in july). I am not so active on this forum though. This is only my second post
    - I watched the 4 video blogs numerous times
    - I bought a Blu Ray player just to watch the extended editions of LOTR with all the bonus features
    - I bought The Hobbit + LOTR Boxed Set illustrated by Alan Lee from the UK to read the books in english, they are much better than translated into romanian :)
    - I set the picture with all the dwarves as my wallpaper, I know some of them look really silly but what can I do... It's still a good story.

    I think it's time I got a life... FML ! :))

  19. Never Radu- you have a perfectly healthy life being obsessed with all things Tolkien- nothing finer.
My only concern for you is the money you put in PJ's pocket, it only encourages him you know.

After downloading the films for many times since 2001, I considered that ~50EUR was a fair price for 3 films and 27 hours of bonus content, although this will not be the ultimate set (after they release The Hobbit they will put them all together in a nice box and release them again).
Blu Ray films are very expensive in Romania, considering the salaries.
I just felt I needed to own this set, LOTR is my favourite film after all. :)

    Posted 6 months ago #
  21. LotR's is your favourite film. I can only hope therefore Radu that one day you get to see more films!!

    Posted 6 months ago #
  22. lol...I have to say, Jason, when I read your post about the tartans, I was quite confused, never having even heard many of the terms you used before in your post. I did a bit of googling and came across the website you got the note off of. And then things made sense. :)

Radu I am like you I bought the dvd LOTR collection with the bonus bits. But I haven't used it yet and its one my bookshelf looking pretty. It was expensive but I like to look at it. I also bought LOTR books with illustrations by Alan Lee, I like looking at them too, I even like to smell the pages (kinda weird) but I like the smell of books.

    Posted 6 months ago #
  24. It's totally not weird to smell the pages in books! I do it all the time.

Talking of being obsessed, I just looked at the video blog for the zillionth time, and I have a question. straight after the bit with the dwarves tumbling through bilbos door, there is a scene I dont understand. it shows the dwarves with Gandalf in the background in a kind of elvenish space, there are two large statues which look elven like they could be in Rivendell or Thranduils palace but they are being threatened, so it cant be Thranduils because gandalf wasnt with them at that time, and it can't be Rivendell because nothing threatened them at that time, so answers on a postcard please....

  26. Can I be an honorary Campbell of Cawdor, Jason? Please. Pretty please. "Laird" of Cawdor would be nice too...

Yeah, Julia - where could that scene be? Is it when the Company visits the White Council or sumpin?

Jason, I've watched many films from the 1910's until now. I sure hope they make more fantasy stuff, it's definitely my genre :)
Julia, I skimmed through the video to find the scene but I don't know what it could be.
As for books, they have a special smell, I also like it very much :)

  29. I do hope you realise I was just teasing Radu. Nosferatu and of course Metropolis are two of favourite early fantasy/sci-fi favourites.

Glenn you have to pass the tests first, of which there are 3. If you lie or fail 1 you will be strung out spreadeagled upon the heather, coated with buckie and left over night, throughout which tiime men with sticks will beat up clouds of midges to torment you till madness.

    1. Can you do a highland fling?

Julia I have heard sumpin' is a very unhygenic practice.

Radu I just can't understand what that scene could be, those statues look a bit elven to me but they are making a lot of things up so its anyones guess I suppose. and Jason was just joking, he has a strange sense of humour.
