In vain of my last post about it being dead in here of late, an effort to get some conversation going.

    2 questions:

If you could meet any single character from any part of the Tolkein world who would it be, why and what would you ask them if you had 1 question?

Second is of the same vain... if you could visit one place in real life, where would it be, why and where would you choose to spend your last hour before coming back to reality?

For fun... would you choose to be human?

Definitely conjured up some scintillating conversation here then!!

Mine would be Glorfindel as there is too much history that tolkein never got round to telling that I would want to know about.

Place would probably be Gondolin before it's fall. I couldn't pick a specific place there that I would like to spend my last hour though as there isn't too much detail to suggest a good place.

Sorry Lance, I think we are all a bit lack lustre and lacking energy at the moment. It generally ebbs and flows, what we need is a rocket up the arse in the form of something juicy like a new trailer or a blog or the news that Petty has gone over to TORN to join their happy clappy club. But I would love to answer your question, I have steeled my loins with a double expresso, so here goes.
To answer your last question first, where would you go? well I would like to be riding up to Minas Tirith from the Pelenor fields, I would like to see it rising like a great white ship from the mountain side, I would like to hear the silver trumpets calling, I would like it to be a golden dawn. I would like to spend my last hour up on the terrace of the White Tree of Gondor, looking down over Middle Earth, I would like to be walking with Boromir, and then reality.
The person I would most like to meet would be Gandalf, although Tom would be a close second. I would ask Gandalf if I could ever find my way back to Middle Earth. He would probably give me a vague but beautiful answer, but that would be enough to remember for the rest of my life.

    1. Tom -but bit of a cheat because Goldberry comes with him.
Question to ask- So is this an open releationship then?

What?! I have a thing for water nymphs -its the permanent wet tshirt look that does it you know.

    2. The Shire. Any pub. Although proably the Golden Perch (best beer in the Farthing). If I only have an hour I want to spend it as a happy hobbit eating, smoking and drinking in pleasant company and with rolling countryside all round.
Besides I'll need the resusitation of it after the Goldberry stuff!

Goldberry eh? Strangely I had always had a picture of something like a cotton puppet with cotton hair. Don't ask me what in tolkeins description ever made me think that as I don't have a clue.

Good choices there. I think I would like to arrive in gondolin by eagle as they did in the silmarillion. Soar over the peaks (clearly you didn't need any acclimatisation time in the elder days) and see the White walls and tower appear in the distance with the mountains circling all around.

Gandalf would probably be too cryptic to me. Sure glorfindel could show me a few moves on some unsuspecting orcs too!

You are right Lance, Gandalf would be irritatingly cryptic, and you couldnt even grab him by the lapels and give him a shake cos he is so sweet and twinkling, plus he could change you into a orrible creature. But as he is a Maia, if anyone could help me get to M.E again it would be him.

Hmm.... that's a tough one.... I'd probably like to meet any of the Valar, really. Perhaps Tulkas. He's the strongest of the Valar, and he laughs a lot. Maybe I'd ask him to tell me his best joke. It'd probably be, "YOU CAN TUNE A PIANO, BUT YOU CAN'T TUNA FISH!!" And then he would just burst into boisterous laughter.

I think I'd like to visit Tirion (which would be a lot like Lance's choice, Gondolin). I mean, visiting Valmar and meeting so many Valar and the Eldar there would be cool too, but Tirion just seems like such a beautiful, ancient, majestic place where there's always laughter and the sound of fountains and the gleam of mighty gems.

Human? Pfft! I'd choose to be like one of the Elves of Valinor, who had seen the light of the Trees and the majesty of the Valar. I don't think I'd be able to fully appreciate any of it otherwise.
