Sooooooo. I have been blessed with a week off this Christmas season. I remember months back one or more of the posters here spoke about re-edits of the LOTR trilogy. I don't remember who it was. I know there are a few versions out on the interwebs. I just figured I would ask here because getting your hands on the copies I have read about so far invole going to piratey places. Sites that it is said no to be loaded lightly.
Petty has them. I actually haven't downloaded ROTK yet. I need to get on that, but the link is expired. Any help petty?
I have edits I did myself Barnamir- but as I am not interested in piracy or anything I only offer them to members on the Forumshire site- as a least I control who gets access to them and I can be reasonably certain anyone watching them already paid PJ his dues at the cinema, dvd, special editions ect.

I cant stand that scene, as a big lover of the films especially the EE versions, that is one scene i cant watch, why oh why would you make up that rubbish, every one knows Gandy is the boss of middle earth so having the WK do that to him just damages his reputation and gives a false interpretation. In the books the only meet not fight. However still focussing on the WK i have to say that his death is very disappointing for me, book and film, he is built up to be this unstoppable Nazgul, second in line to Sauron and then gets killed by a Eowen??? very anti climax, takes away the power and fear we had before. Also i saw on another thread about the whole prohcey and glorfindel could someone explain this please, many thanks
The scene was meant to emphasize the fact that humanity was on the cusp of defeat, however ham-fistedly it was carried out. I don't think of it as the Witch King "owning" Gandalf, only that he has been caught off guard, is preoccupied with organising a war and other distractions (Denethor and Faramir), he is at the end of his hope-rope, so to speak. It served to add a formidable Big Bad in the absence of Sauron himself.
But why on earth do you have a problem with Eowen destroying the Witch King? I think it's one of the greatest scenes in the book, and definitely the highlight of the attack on Minas Tirith. Is it 'cos she's a woman???
without sounding like a sexist every time i see that scene, read that scene i just think 'really'? This big badf boss who cannot be killed by any great warrior amongst Middle earth actually gets killed by a women with no experience in combat. I think a battle between Gandalf and the WK would of been more fitting, seemed ideal considering Gandy is no mere man. Ha. At the very least i wished we could of seen more from him, and seen heard that he caused more destruction, just seems that the sooner he was on the battle field he was gone.

ok here goes.
Whilst Sauron was recovering after being physically destroyed and robbed of the Ring at the Last Alliance battle, the Witch-King arose in the north, in Angmar, and began to prepare things for his masters eventual reappearance.
One of the main aims of the Witch-king was to destroy the north Kingdom of Arnor, run by Aragorns ancestors.
Through subtle means to start with the Witch-king succeeded in splitting the north kingdom into separate rival parts- weakening the whole.
And when the time was right he made war on Arnor and swept everyone before him.
The Dunedain called on the elves for help and eventually help came- but by that time most of the kingdom had fallen and Amon Sul (Weathertop) had been destroyed and burnt.
The arrival of the elves turned the tide and the Witch-king fled- they were going to pursue him but Glorfindel made his predication saying he would not be killed by the hand of man.
Now jump to the time of Lord of the Rings and on their way to Bree the hobbits get captured in a Barrow on the Downs. The barrow they are captured in was made as a tomb for the people who had been fighting the witch-king back in the day. And the swords in the tomb were bound with spells specifically designed to break the magic protecting the witch-king.
Fast forward to the Pellanor and when Merry stabs the witch-king with the barrow blade the blow breaks the protective spell protecting the witch-king and allows Eowyn the chance to kill him as prophesied.
On her own she, nor any other living person, could harm the witch-king- what defeated him was Merry breaking the spells with a blade forged thousands of years earlier for just such a purpose, but for a different war.
So Eowyns skill with a sword or native strength don't come into it. All she had to do was hit him with a fatal blow in the few seconds she had whilst his 'protections' were down.
Of course facing up to the fear and terror of the witch-king in the first place is a feat many a strong male warrior might have failed in- so she certainly qualifies for brave and heroic on those grounds.
