Stu - To be honest, I wouldn't have seen Brain Blessed coming anywhere near close to pulling off a dwarf beforehe played Gimli. He didn't pull of the book version of Gimli, but he did a good job of the PJ version.

I think Billy will be fine. I imagine with all the costume and makeup on he will look different enough to not remind of the pic WETA have put up (not exactly the right pic to show off the 'strongest and toughest of dwarves') and as mentioned, his dramatic acting skills are quite good.

I do believe John Rhys Davies played Gimli.

    Ayup Lance...

Sorry, But I think Queen Victorias Ghillie will be Crap. Even with a rubber Nose... You might as well get Connery and Caine in too if you're going down that route...

Now you are making me think of the end of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves Stu- a film I had the great pleasure of seeing at the cinema- and it was only a pleasure because I have never been at a film where the audience roared with laughter so often when it was not supposed to.
Kinda knew it was heading that way when Costner stepped out the boat and in his best American accent declared his love of England and kissed the ground. By the time Connery tunred up at the end and you first just heard his thick Edinburgh accent declaring he was Richard the Lion Heart people were falling out their seats with laughter.

Wonder if TH is heading for a similar reception.

No need to gloat Jon ... LOL you have to admit lack of news about such an important character was disheartening... And PJ does have a talent for rewriting Tolkien the way he wants it to be

Very true. And there's still the possibility that Jackson could not do all those common sense thing that we had all originally discussed. So... shouldn't count my chickens too soon. But, still, a little gloating was just too hard to resist... :)

Not a particularly constructive or positive post, I admit, but, like Stu, I'm not especially thrilled by Connolly's casting either.

It's just that I'm not that convinced by his dramatic capabilities; I can see _this_ Dain cursing and head-butting his opponents.

I'd much rather have had a less well-known actor but with real heft and gravity, someone like Stephen Graham.

    Still, you never know...

Kendalf, Conolly will be great he does have some great dramatic performances. They just aren't as dominant as his comedic roles but he is more than capable to pull it off and be believable. I think they will keep the comedy to a minimum at this point in the films since it will be pretty serious by this point in time. Time will tell how the films will turn out, I think with LOTR they got the casting perfect so I DO trust their judgement on casting in the Hobbit.

Yep, I've got to say the casting for LotR was exceptional and, yep, if the Azanulbizar flashback's in there and we _are_ going to witness the demise of Thorin, Fili and Kili, then a comedy Dain would seem a little inappropriate.

It's just the only piece of casting news so far that's made me raise an eyebrow, that's all...
