Alas, I was out of town...so I could have no party nor go to one. But a belated Happy Birthday to the Master of Fantasy: J.R.R. Tolkien. May your memory and your works never be forgotten, but instead, be forever cherished by all.

This is a beautiful little tribute to the Inklings which I found on another site--Hope it's not improper to post it here.

The Professor! (salut!)

For the Inklings
P.R. Miller
My heart imagines where they met,
those men who tramped through cold and wet,
arriving at that pub which bore
a sign above its simple door.
“The Eagle and the Child” it read,
“The Bird and Baby” was, instead,
what it was called, by guest and host;
but more than this,
what matters most
is that a marvel happened here,
within this world of pies and beer.

Oooo... I love that tribute Otto's World. It's a very apt toast to Tolkien.

Did Tolkien always have toast on his birthdays?

I think this might have been Odo's most ridiculous and least justifiable thread bump yet, though I'm only about halfway through the forums. :lol:

Well I got through all of your posts so far and I still have to go with this thread. Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow to find an even more bizarre one though. I should really sleep now, though. :roll:
