Hello Elladan here.

I am 18, from the UK and didnt notice this thread, until just now.

I am a big Tolkien fan and cant wait to get out my pointy ears and cloak for the Hobbit premier.

PS. Poole is awsome, loving the squirrels.

Hi Elledan, nice to meet you. It's great that more Brits are joining the forum. Yeah the squirrels in Poole are cute. The last time I was back I also saw some red foxes near my Grandma's grave site. What part of Britain are you from?

Hey, Tuor here. I am 14, found about Tolkien's writing last year and cannot find enough to fill my desire. I long for the Eldar days and the lost island of Numenore.

I'm old bloke from Australia (probabaly about the same age as Bilbo was when he took off on his adventures). Huge fan since about 1973 when I first stumbled across The Hobbit. Hooked ever since. Started me writing fantasy. Good to see the fan base is still growing!

Nice to meet another "Old Fogey" Odo ;) (though I guess I'm a wee bit younger than you). I like hanging out with all the "youngsters" here though. Helps keep the mind sharp  .

Dear Mr Beard,

I almost used the term "Old Fogey" when I logged in. Is it a worldwide term? And, you know, it sounds quite Hobbitish in a way. One wonders: was there ever a Hobbit called "Old Fogey"? Maybe he was a cooper from Needlehole in the North Farthing; a Stoor, heavy set, feet on the ground, and grumpy to boot! Can't find him anywhere in the Red Book though...

Regards
Odo

(NB I tried to send another post but I don't know what happened to it. Maybe I hit the wrong button? Maybe it'll turn up mysteriously? (Computer literate - ah... no....)

I like you Odo :D . I'm not sure where I would classify myself on the "Youngster" to "Old Fogey" scale... huh. Never really thought about it  .

Anyhow, great to have you on the forums Odo, for an Old Fogey you got Style 8-) .

EDIT: Also note this is my Fortieth post... just another reason to like Odo?

Hello Odo,
I am originally from Merry Olde England, expatriated to the Good Ol' US of A as a laddie. So I'm not entirely certain as to where I first heard the term "Old Fogey". But I expect it is (was?) common in all three countries, UK, USA, and Oz (I hope you don't mind my affectionately using that term for your country. I have always loved the associations with Baum's famous books, which were some of my favourites alongside Tolkien's and Lewis's).

As to your technical issues, I suspect Cyber-Gremlins ;) (my tech savvy diagnosis  ).

Hi Odo, and welcome! I think I'm probably one of the younger members here, but I've always liked the diversity in age - among other factors - that the internet brings. I hope you have fun here!

Durin - congrats!
