Could we have a New Thread next to Best Fantasy entitled Graphic Novels and Comics, Please? I have some recommendations, and this is a great Forum for sharing our ideas on. Thanks

Can we make a thread with a timeline or encyclopaedia of LOTR and the history of Middle Earth and so forth? I found it quite difficult to piece together events from the past and the future in the history of MIddle Earth, i found it tedious and frustrating. Also, there could be some novices around here who dont really know much about LOTR and the events before it and an encyclopedia of LOTR could satisfy thier desire for knowledge, it could me made so that people can browse through the encyclopaedia for the info they need, it would be very fun and interesting and the whole community here can join in and add to the encyclopaedia, it would help for us LOTR fans to expand our knowledge of LOTR and the history behind it and like i mentioned, it would be immensely fun! i hope you guys consider my suggestion

a light from the shadows shall spring;
renewed shall be blade that was broken:
the crownless again shall be king

Hi Istari, welcome to the forum! A discussion forum isn't really the best format for an encyclopaedia and in any event, it's already been done. There are many encyclopaedias about Middle-earth both in print and on the web. I try to stay clear of most of them but the best I've found (on the web), is http://tuckborough.net/. Unlike most it lists it sources and is, in my experience, generally accurate to the lore.

Also, there are timelines of the Second Third, and part of the Fourth Ages in Appendix B of The Lord of the Rings itself. ;)

Indeed, it's probably best not to reinvent the wheel...er...encyclopedia :roll: . Eldorion's right, there are a number of exceptional resources available on the Web. If I ever need a refresher on, say, Frodo's lineage and actual relationship to Bilbo ;) , I can just google "Frodo's parents" and all kinds of stuff pops up. Likewise, entering "timeline of the Third Age Middle Earth" into your search engine will bring you a wealth of resources.
