I hope he anounces something soon!!! But we all know how movie directers can get when it comes to saying anything early especially when it's a movie as highly anticipated as this. As far as Bilbo goes I hope they cast someone with similar looks to Ian Holme (seeing as he was the first Bilbo and all). But I don't know of any actors that would look like him but maybe I'm just having a brain freeze.

There are two confirmed to be casted in the hobbit 1 and 2 which alot of people probably already know.

- Andy serkis - gollumn
- Ian Mckellen - Gandalf =]

I hope more are to come! :)

We have received confirmation from the source of all sources, GDT himself stating that this rumor is NOT TRUE. Rest easy folks, it’s not happening.

It is looking up since the director is saying that it is a rumor and not true :)

They still haven't picked an actor to play Bilbo yet...

No, but a few weeks ago Del Toro said he expected an announcement in a few weeks. So I'm expecting something any day now.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like MGM is in serious financial trouble, which could impact the filming of The Hobbit. ScreenRant has the story here:

http://screenrant.com/mgm-bankruptcy-the-hobbit-james-bond-ross-27635/

I agree with the article's writer that someone will want to pick up The Hobbit should MGM go belly up, but I think it might be more complicated than just selling the rights to another studio.

Thoughts?

Damn ... that's not good news. However, given that The Hobbit is almost certainly guaranteed to be a success, I am confident that someone else will step in. MGM might sell the distribution rights for The Hobbit too, and that could possibly help them with their financial situation.

We'll see, I guess....
