Is there already a thread about who will play Thorin Oakenshield?
If not, what actor do you think is best suited for the role?

Well, here is the thread where we have the confirmed cast of The Hobbit Movie... hope this is what you were looking for  .

confirmed-cast-225.html

That's what we know as far as confirmed cast so far. I am not very good with names of actors, so... I couldn't give you a good guess as to who it might be

I actually haven't given a lot of thought to Thorin's casting. And I'm racking my brains for fairly well known actors that might suit the part.

A number of folk have suggested Sean Connery for Smaug, but I think he's all wrong for the part, and he's already been a dragon to boot. This may be off the wall, but just to get the ball rolling on this thread: What do you think about Sean Connery in the role?

Dwarfs have already been established with Gimli as being vaguely Scottish, so that fits. And Connery has plenty of Kingly Gravitas and yet a wry sense of humour. So that would work for him too. Indeed, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea 8-) .

I think Connery does seem like a good idea for Thorin. I never thought of that.

Why are folk so desperate for named actors to play the parts?
It is bordering on the ridiculous.
Sean Connery......
What about Roger Moore as Smaug...................
Brad Pitt as Bilbo, and 'Canoe' Reeves to play all of the dwarves utilising his skills plus CGI to pull off the big name acting coup of the century.Huzzah

Please, no more who'll play who threads........lets put our heads together and make this site worth reading.

I thank you.

Oh Phooey! Don't be a spoilsport Lester Cat :P .

Many of us have fun wondering what the roles would be like with some of our favourite actors in the parts. And yes, there are many excellent little known actors who deserve a shot. If you want to introduce us to some unknowns you've heard of, or tell us why Brad Pitt and Roger Moore would be totally wrong for whichever role (to which I would likely agree), knock yourself out.

Just try not rain on everyone else's parade ;) .

Despite Lester Cats cynacle point of view, I think that he might have a point in some ways because if we all guess who is going to play who, it won't come as a surprise who is picked, and we might all get dispointed and dwell on who might have been chosen for the part.

Although I agree with GB that thinking about the the film's outcome is exciting, and it would be great if our faves' got picked :D ! Can't wait until its out btw! Do you think it will be in the U.S. first?

Well, it's the nature of forums like this, that there will many threads for deep thoughts, and a fair number for banter, and speculation too ;) . I expect we'll all still be pleasantly surprised (hopefully) when the casting has been confirmed and the film completed.

I wouldn't be surprised actually, if the film is released simultaneously. Now, any more ideas on Thorin?

By the way, Lester Cat, I neglected to mention how funny your sarcasm was. I particularly enjoyed your comment about "Canoe" Reeves playing all the Dwarfs with CGI  . Very witty.
