Sorry guys not really Hobbit-News but I didn't know where else to put it, I just wanted to let everypne know, that Christopher Lee has recently been knighted for his services to drama. The Guardian has some coverage of it. Great actor, the title has gone to a very deserving actor, lets here it for Lee! Btw the acticle covering his knighting is titled `Arise Sir Dracula'

In my view, I think that Lee's work more recently has been the reason for his kighthood because has much more of a proffessional touch than the things he was in earlier, I wasn't really a big fan of the James Bond film he was in and as for Dracula, its very very dated, although I think he still acted well in those.

Obvoiusly I loved him as Sauron, probably one of his best roles recently, and I enjoyed watching him in his role as Count Dooku in the Attack of the Clones and the Revenge of the Sith. I loved the small character he played in Tim Burtons adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He was in true Christopher Lee character! I definatley love him, he's a great actor and I hope he can appear in The Hobbit, playing either Saruman or Smaug!

Actually, I think his Dracula films hold up very well to this day. Admittedly the Bond film he was in is dated, but the Dracula films are period pieces anyway. And they focused less on special effects and makeup and more on atmosphere, so there is little of that to spoil the films for modern audiences. Unlike the Bela Lugosi films which do seem dated and a bit laughable now by comparison (no offense to Lugosi fans).

And usually Knighthoods are bestowed on performers that have achieved an iconic status that brings global recognition that reflects well on Britain. So I think it is based on the entirety of Lee's work rather than anything in particular he's done recently or in the past.

I agree but had Lee not appeared in the things he had most recently I don't think he would have been awarded it. Btw GB thankyou for moving the conversation .

I'm not so sure that his recent work decided his Knighthood per se. He was already something of an icon before LotR and Star Wars. I think his recent roles just reminded people that he was still around. I mean what did Sean Connery get it for? Popcorn Spy flicks and a history of supporting parts? Or was it because he was one of Britain's most recognizable actors? I think the same can be said for Lee.
