Aha, that would be very funny casting. Not a bad choice.

Hi to all!

I am new here. Hope everyone are keeping well?
Just wondering if by any chance?! If anyone knows who is going to do the Casting for the Hobbit? I have been asking and looking like a nut case with no results. Hope that someone can help and hope to hear from someone soon.

I don't think there is an official casting director, but I believe that Del Toro, Jackson, Walsh, and all of them, have been consulting each other a lot about it.

I made some slight changes. Bravo on Thorin, by the way. Brian would be brilliant.

Ian McKellen- Gandalf
Andy Serkis- Gollum
Doug Jones- Bilbo Baggins
Brian Blessed-Thorin Oakenshield
Hugo Weaving- Elrond
Richard E Grant- Thranduil
Ron Perlman- Beorn
Lee Arenberg- Balin
Timothy Spall-Dwalin
Brendan Gleeson- Bombur
Hugh Jackman- Bard the Bowman
Jeremy Irons OR Liam Neeson - Smaug (voice)

The dwarves can be rearranged, but keep Blessed as Thorin.

Highlighted are my personal preferances.

Ian McKellen- Gandalf
Andy Serkis- Gollum
Jim Sturgess - Bilbo Baggins
Ron Perlman -Thorin Oakenshield
Hugo Weaving- Elrond
?- Thranduil
Brian Blessed- Beorn
James Cosmo- Balin
Brendan Gleeson -Dwalin
Nick Frost- Bombur
Hans Matheson- Bard the Bowman
Timothy Dalton (voice of) - Smaug (I like this one, much less recognisable than if they got Alan Rickman, Chris Lee or John Hurt)

I think Liam Neeson would be brilliant as Smaug but Christopher Lee would be just as good (though it might be weird hearing his voice as we already know him as Saruman lol)

In the second movie when Bilbo and co get captured by Thranduil, they should have a scene with Legolas (played by Orlando Bloom) or at least sneak him into a shot or two. :)

I'm actually having second thoughts. Jeremy Irons would be really good in my opinion. You'll get a great example of him about five minutes fifteen seconds in here:
