Lucy, I feel your pain. I've posted questions on other topics about WHEN they were going to announce who bilbo would be. But considering they're still in the script writing stage, I don't think we'll know until December or January, or maybe even Feburary! GOOD GRIEF!!! Not all of us are as patient as elves!

I did suggest Mr Davies in the Legolas thread. (At least, I think it was the Legolas thread, can't be sure, awhile back now). Good to see someone else on the forum is thinking seriously (?) about him too! I think he'd be excellent.

Tis funny that you should mention John Rhys Davies and him not wanting to go through the process of being latex-afied to play the part of Gimli again, considering Davies has just recently said that he would prefer not to be asked to play the part again. I always did feel sorry for him when I listened to the commentary on the EE and heard him talk about his skin reactions to the glue and makeup, and how he almost never left his trailer.

I think it's cool they were actually asking him if he'd consider returning as Gloin 8-) . It shows that DT and PJ are definitely thinking along the same lines as many of us. Good call Odo and Lucysynk.

indeed GB, it makes me feel kind of special because they asked him to be in the movie, like they ARE looking at the forums and what WE think...

I know this is completely out of left field...and possibly insane...but I just had a thought (always a dangerous thing).

What about Gary Oldman as Bilbo Baggins????

I know he is usually cast as some insane baddie, and not the typical choice.

However, if you look at his face, there can be a kind of earnest simplicity to it. And he looks short! ;) I could just imagine him sitting in the twilight outside Bag End, puffing his pipe.

If he hadn't just brilliantly played a very low-key Commissioner Gordon in the last two Batman films, I would have said that was insane  . Even his turn as Sirius Black in the Potter films plays on his Dark Side. But since he played Gordon I could actually see him as a laid back Hobbit type. Very interesting PK 8-) .

This is probably so far out of left field it's right field, but what about him playing Beren? Sirius done less mad might work? Certainly would make a ragged Ranger sort. Sorry, wrong thread...

I just watched a DVD of the Dr. Who episode "The Next Doctor". David Morrisey plays the title role. I liked him quite a bit, and physically he seems the right build to play Bilbo. Seems a few other people may have mentioned him as a possibility too. Any thoughts?
