I had a thought. WHat about Jeremy Irons as Barahir? He has that fatherly touch I guess...

Jeremy would probably make a great veteran warrior - and honorable. I could imagine Finrod Felagund liking a guy like him.

Actually, I've formed quite an affection for Finrod. He seems very down to earth - for an elf at least! Just thought of something interesting - Finrod forsook immortality because of his love for a mortal! Now, who could play him?

Well, it would be good for Mr Irons to appear in a GOOD Fantasy film after the disaster of Eragon ;) . He was the one bright spot in that film.

I read about a hundred pages of Eragon and stopped. Though a clearly young writer having a crack - and being good enough to be commercially successful, one can't knock that - I just find the writing unexciting and the story flimsy! I guess Ive been spoiled by reading quality fantasies like TH, LOTR, TWW, Narnia, Waterhip Down and Jack Vance stuff, Wuthering Heights etc...

And the film looks plain dull!

But Jeremy Irons would have been good. Cream always rises to the top.

Finrod should stay an elf I think, and keep his immortality. We don't want to clog the story of Lutien and Beren with another Love story that doesn't occur during this time period. But I do think that he should favor mortals over his own kind, or at least have a gaining interest in them. I think also he should look more mortally as well, just to show that he's a little different also...
And when I was younger, I refused to read it because it was called ERagon, which for me was WAY too close to Aragorn. And I still wont read it, I'm not all too sure why..
What about the two brothers? who should play them?

I have no ideas for Celegorm or Curufin yet.

As to Finrod losing his Immortality, I was trying to be a bit witty. As usual, I've fallen on my face!

What I was getting at was that Finrod loved Beren (in a platonic way) and so when Finrod is killed by the werewolf he thus gives up his life (and Immortality!) for him.

I certainly hope you don't think I was suggesting Finrod have a romance with Beren - that would not seem very appropriate! Not only would T be quite taken aback by the idea, I'm sure, but Luthien wouldn't be pleased either!

Is there any chance you might be mixing Finrod Felagund up with someone else? :|

Maybe I was a little hard on Eragon - but I really did not warm to it...

Goodness NO! i wasn't suggesting that at all!  No no, but way to go out on a limb ;) But I understand what you mean. Now its hard to show an intimate relationship like that without someone thinking thery're gay, which is SO IMMATURE!!!!! I'm not sure if its strickly an american thing, but Its very annoying here!
And I didn't warm up to it either...

Okay, I've created a new thread in the Tolkien sub-forum: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies and Satires and shifted the last few posts there.

You are a clever Beard, haven't I always said so?

Now we can get back on track.

How about Tom Cruise as a weedy hobgoblin? He could jump around brandishing a scimitar - just before Beren cuts him into mincemeat...

Hey! We could even save some money on prosthetics! ;)

Hey! What about Nicole Kidman for Luthien? Then she could cut that hobgoblin into incy wincy bits. Could be very realistic...! 8-)

You know, Tom Cruise is quite a good actor...despite his extracurricular activities ;) . But apparently he can't do accents. His American Accented SS officer was so disconcerting in the previews for Valkyrie it totally put me off seeing it. So No Orc for him.

Personally I liked the Pythonish sounding Orcs in Jackson's films. Then a little while ago I saw an article on the BBC site about Michael Caine. Think we can find a role for Michael "Me 'and, it's me Bloody 'and" Caine? Come to think of it, as he's already played a handless bloke decades ago, he has the experience to play Barahir :P .

Okay, probably not  . And B&L is probably too serious for a couple of comic relief Orcs.

By the way, Nicole Kidman is good I'll grant you, but I think she's a bit too icy and sharp looking to be Luthien. She might be brilliant as Luthien's mother though.
