Well, after the resounding success of The Hobbit in theaters and home videos, the film and book have enjoyed so much popularity that the fandom has come up with various merchandise to celebrate their most beloved story. After all, it’s not that surprising since there are many of those who remember The Hobbit fondly as the slightly more upbeat prequel to the dark and nigh-apocalyptic premise of Lord of the Rings. There have been countless cosplay competitions, fund-raising events, storytelling contests and general festivity to celebrate everyone’s oldest and favorite fantasy story as envisioned by the legendary J.R.R. Tolkien and filtered through the visions of Peter Jackson.
Well, we haven’t seen much yet, considering that all we’ve seen so far is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which, despite already being overly long (like most of Peter Jackson’s films) only marks the first leg of Bilbo Baggins’s journey, much like Frodo Baggins’ own in Fellowship of the Ring. Oh well, we’ve already seen plenty of epic scenes in the first film alone with the destruction of Erebor at the very start of the film when Smaug, the wicked wyrm turns up to destroy the dwarven kingdom and razed down the once proud city to ash and rubble and this without even revealing the dragon to the audience with the naked terror of Erebor’s inhabitants enough to convey to viewers the mood of the moment. There are also other memorable moments like the overhead view of Hobbiton, showing to us in full the beauty of the Shire and the idyllic lifestyle that the hobbits must surely live in their cozy homes. Then we get quite an eyeful when Bilbo finally decides to join the dwarves and begin his journey into uncharted lands beyond the safety of the Shire and the start of their quest to reclaim the lost kingdom of Erebor from the clutches of the mighty and cunning dragon Smaug.
We’re also in for quite a treat with the coming sequels and An Unexpected Journey seems to be just the tip of the iceberg. We can expect even more epic scenes and images once the sequels roll around especially when Smaug himself wakes and rises from his slumber to lay waste to the nearby town of Lake Town and the ensuing battle that will surely follow. Another awesome scene to be anticipated would of course be the titanic battle that would come in the Battle of Five Armies that the cast and crew of The Hobbit have prepared for quite some time. Whatever the case, with trading cards, you can hold all those epic scenes and memories to your heart and home!
