Nonetheless, before the films were made, Lord of the Rings wasn’t as popular until the movies rolled around and is likely due to the way the books probably intimidated potential readers due to its depth and length (something the Bible also gets) and fans of the franchise were mostly just dedicated readers. When the films finally came about, one can say that J.R.R. Tolkien’s fans grew exponentially. Anyway, while Lord of the Rings has a lot of identifiable characters in its cast such as Legolas, Aragorn, Gandalf, Gollum and even Sam to some, one of the most notable characters would be Frodo Baggins. After all, he may be considered the “central” character of Lord of the Rings if not the hero as he chooses to bear the burden of the One Ring. This is also helped by the fact that Frodo Baggins is played by none other than Elijah Wood, a rather charming actor who is noted for his youthful appearance.
Elijah Wood was born in the 28th of January in 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in the United States. Already quite talented as a child, he got his start in acting when he starred in various TV commercials in 1988. One of his biggest breaks in film though would occur in 1993, when he was placed opposite of Macaulay Culkin(who was already quite famous when he played as Kevin McCallister of Home Alone fame) with Elijah’s character Mark being the misunderstood hero and Macaulay as Henry the psychotic and cunning villain of the movie.
Elijah Wood is also known for his voice acting roles and some of his most memorable include his portrayal of Mumble of Happy Feet and 9 of 9. Elijah Wood is noted for his young appearance and is probably why he was easily one of the best choices for portraying Frodo Baggins considering the latter’s naivete and innocence. Some have even speculated about Peter Jackson’s crew enhancing Elijah Wood’s appearance for the part but they were all proven wrong when it was confirmed that Elijah Wood’s looks (except for his stature of course) were all natural, especially even his eerie blue eyes. Surprisingly, Elijah Wood appeared again in the first installment of The Hobbit film trilogy entitled An Unexpected Journey as an old Bilbo Baggins recounts his story of finding the One Ring in a flashback fashion.
