Scottish comedian Billy Connolly will play a pugnacious dwarf in Peter Jackson’s upcoming The Hobbit movies, the New Zealand director said.
Mr Jackson said the recruitment of Mr Connolly, known as the “Big Yin”, completed casting for his latest Tolkien epic, a two-film adaptation of The Hobbit currently being shot in Mr Jackson’s homeland.
“We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself,” Mr Jackson said in a statement. “With Billy stepping into this role, the cast of The Hobbit is now complete. We can’t wait to see him on the battlefield.”
