Or at least he doesn't expect to, if you look at the casting call list, he's (was at the time of original publish) looking for actors to audition for the role of Bard.

no, he isn’t going to replace Bard with Itaril. I have the edited versions, and the extended Directors versions in the 4 disc set. I love the artistry, the story, the actors, the entire EVERYTHING! It is a masterpiece! I know this chapter of the Baggins biography will be amazing, and meld beautifully with the Ring Trilogy, as it should. Peter Jackson has incredible insight to the mind of Tolkien. Jackson has brought to "life" the world Tolkien created, and has done so, in such a way, the fans/viewers actually feel a connection to the cast, the characters, and the gorgeous locale where Middle Earth truly is. This chapter is exactly what the fans, and I bet the cast as well, have been waiting for!
I'm so excited!!

Ohhh..can’t wait! LOVE the Trilogy. I have the edited versions, and the extended Directors versions in the 4 disc set. I believe FLORENCE WELCH of FLORENCE + THE MACHINE should be asked to sing or perform a bit part in the movie. Her voice, her style and most of all her looks...perfect Elven female. And her voice ... epic!

I stated this elsewhere…but…once again. With the books right in front of him, Jackson saw need to re-wright a screen play to base his movies off of. What better script than that which the master had already produced. My fear is that we will see a Hobbit movie that only follows the story line when it is convinient for the director. Will Jackson replace Bard the Bowman with this Itaril and screw up the entire visit to Esgaroth on Long Lake and The Battle Of Five Armies? Will Smaug be a Black Dragon? Will the Wood Elves of Mirkwood live in a gleaming palace instead of inside a mountian? Maybe theatrical audience appeal should not overcome the literature.

Having read much of Tolkiens major works on Middle Earth, ie The Silmarilion, The Hobbit, Lotr, and many of the subsidiary guides and map books and the like, I am not thrilled with the addition of second and third background charactors being created just to fill screen time. and get this.
I'm a New Zealand citizen, and there is a casting call for the hobbit 500METERS DOWN THE ROAD FROM MY HOUSE.
And I'm too tall!!!!!!!!!! :( I just found out today, I'm so upset, I'm 3inches too tall.
my dad read The Hobbit to me when I was 5, and ive always had a soft spot for it.... But I doubt I would be able to play Itaril, though I would LOVE to. Though I do also understand everyones dislike of the idea of her character; I get wanting the movie to be true to the book.
Argh!

@kat, I’m 17 and 5’5 and like you would LOVE to be an extra….<br

Tolkien didn't write it into the book and his work should be respected. Especially seeing as this is a screen adaptation of his famous novel, not a overrated fan-fiction. It's just turning it into something it's not.

A love story would be all wrong for this…<br
