Peter Jackson says the first Hobbit movie script is complete and was handed into a happy and grateful studio.
“The Hobbit will be two movies and we’ve written the first script and delivered it to the studio who seem to be happy with it,” he told reporters.
“We’re now halfway through the second script and Philippa, Fran, Guillermo and myself are doing the scripts and having great fun.”
“It was an interesting experience because eight or nine years have passed since we wrote the Lord of the Rings screenplays and I was worried it’d be weird or hard or uncomfortable to go back there, but as soon as we started writing the scripts it was fun, actually, and easy.”
Asked if he had any regrets handing over the reigns to Middle Earth he was quick to give his vote of confidence to Guillermo Del Toro.
“It’s our job to support him and to help him tell the story – and my favourite part of the process of film making is the screenplay. That’s the part that’s the least pressured and most creative and it’s fun.”
Now its confirmed the screenplay is complete and has the blessing of the studio we should be getting casting news any time soon. Hopefully this gives weight to last weeks rumors of Brian Cox being approached to play one of the Dwarves.

Ooh, yay. It just gets more exciting with every update. I can’t wait to see the casting. The trilogy did such a amazing job with that, after all.
Just to add, Jackson also mentioned that the film will be completely 2D and not 3D as earlier speculated.
Great news. One nit…
It’s “handing over the reins”, not “handing over the reigns”. At the time of the Hobbit, the King hasn’t returned yet.
