I think that the film should follow the book but should include the white council and the destroying of dol guldur and the idea of having 2 films for 1 book is good as well as it allows more detail to be added to make the film better.

I hope that the movie(s) are released soon we’ve waited long enough. @Joel You are mistaken He again wore bodily form after numenor.
To both of you: the point for my ideal storyline for the movie stands against the stupid "1stmovie = hobbit, 2nd movie = inbetween... from DT. dumb" luckily since I wrote this comment, they actually saw the light and took my route.
Not to change the subject but was everyone else as disappointed as I was w/ Children of Hurin? Borrring... The Silmarillion covered it rather well.

@reg, No he is in spirit form and called the necromancer. You are correct. Sauron was defeated in "bodily" form at the end of the second when he lost the ring, not at DolGoldur. You need to read the books not just watch the films (but they had it right too)

@seank,<br

The White Council (the one in The Hobbit anyway, for there were earlier ones, it was formed in TA 2463) was TA 2953. That would put Aragorn at the time of the Council at age 22. He was probably about 10 at the time that the events in the Hobbit begin, so he wouldn't be 'advising' anyone yet. ;)

@Ian, Aragorn was born in TA 2931. If you were a true fan of the book, you would want the movie/movies to be as true to the book as possible and want it to be the best it could possibly be, which can't possibly happen with one movie. Yes, perhaps part of the reason for 2 movies is money, but we all know PJ and are aware that he's a true Tolkein fan and is committed to staying as true to the story as possible, and one 3-hour long movie just isn't enough to fit in all the details true fans would love to see on screen. I say make as many different movies as you'd like as long as the result is a big-screen version of the tale we all love so much. I mean...look at the Harry Potter movies - they always try fitting those books into one movie and they turn out terribly and fans are always disgruntled with the fact that they're not at all true to the books. Just be happy that we have someone who is so willing to make the best movie possible for the fans.

I feel like everyone complaining about the fact that it’s being split up into 2 movies couldn’t possibly be real die-hard fans of the Hobbit. I think that in the movie they won't have Bard killing smaug, as that would mean introducing another whole character and would probably confuse anyone who hasn't read the book...

I like that a lot, well done… hopefully the script writers are thinking along the same lines…

I really like the idea of ending the first movie shortly after the battle with the goblins and wargs… <img

Will the poetry be included in the movie? J.R.R. Tolkien himself makes it a point to say that the Hobbit is very much of a different type of story than the L.O.T.R. trilogy. isPermaLink="false">http://the-hobbit-movie.com/?p=175#comment-1431

My hopes are that this two-part hobbit episode starts with Gandalf relating to the White Council that he has journeyed to Dol Guldur and found out that it's Sauron and the need to strike. Show scenes of him using magic and skill to escape. Saruman says no, the times is not right. Arguing ensues.
Later Elrond and Gandalf are talking, wondering why Saruman wants to delay, Elrond mentions the dragon and how Sauron might use him. Gandalf says he may have an answer, and it involves the last King under the Mountain. Elrond says Dwarves cannot answer the dragon, and Gandalf says maybe something else can.
Then show the Shire, show the title: The Hobbit. Show Gandalf talking to other hobbits until he spies Bilbo and begins their conversation. During the unexpected party have a flashback to the ruin of the Dale and Mountain, without showing the dragon.
Rest of the film proceeds up to the moment when Gandalf leaves at the Mirkwood. However, I would have the dwarves be attacked on last time right before they're about to go to the Forest, with Bilbo showing true valor for the first time in the fight and Beorn coming ot the rescue. Then a brief parting and a climax moment.
Movie two: Gandalf is again before the council. He and Galadriel persuade the others to attack Dol Guldur. Intercut the journey of the dwarves with the cleansing of Dol Guldur, and have Gandalf set out about the time Thorin and company set out for the Mountain from Laketown. Play out events like the book.
However, end the movie in the House of Elrond. Have Elrond congratulating Gandalf on "solving" the dragon and Sauron. Gandalf says it may be so, bet he fears their real peril may have only increased. End with shots of Bilbo asleep whispering and troubled and the fires of Mordor, and finally Bilbo whispers precious as he clutches his ring, and the as he does so the Eye makes its first appearance.
This in my opinion sets up the Fellowship perfectly.

My hopes are that this two-part hobbit episode starts with Gandalf relating to the White Council that he has journeyed to Dol Guldur and found out that it’s Sauron and the need to strike. THe Hobbit into 2 movies is fine with these caveats:
DT should not take liberties in the story for the 2nd movie as a prequel. Instead: The first movie should climax at Dol Guldur conquest. The story shifting to Gandalf's storyline after the Trolls to when he departs. Bilbo is left with Beorn then starting off towards Mirkwood trail. THen movie 2 pics up (like Two Towers movie). The second hobbit movie will then climax at the proper place: smaug, battle of 5 armies, and goblin attack. etc. Its perfect in tolkiens story because dol goldur is where sauron is defeated in human form and sent into the ether. Galadriel/Celeborn/Elrond are all there with Gandalf. You can also show the choosing of Sauroman. Its perfect ending to a 1 st movie.
Just my suggestion...

I’ve said my piece on several forums and I hope I am not alone:<br

The second hobbit movie will then climax at the proper place: smaug, battle of 5 armies, and goblin attack. etc. Its perfect in tolkiens story because dol goldur is where sauron is defeated in human form and sent into the ether. Galadriel/Celeborn/Elrond are all there with Gandalf. You can also show the choosing of Sauroman. Its perfect ending to a 1 st movie.<br
