If you were a true fan of the book, you would want the movie/movies to be as true to the book as possible and want it to be the best it could possibly be, which can't possibly happen with one movie. Yes, perhaps part of the reason for 2 movies is money, but we all know PJ and are aware that he's a true Tolkein fan and is committed to staying as true to the story as possible, and one 3-hour long movie just isn't enough to fit in all the details true fans would love to see on screen. I say make as many different movies as you'd like as long as the result is a big-screen version of the tale we all love so much. I mean...look at the Harry Potter movies - they always try fitting those books into one movie and they turn out terribly and fans are always disgruntled with the fact that they're not at all true to the books. Just be happy that we have someone who is so willing to make the best movie possible for the fans. I really like the idea of ending the first movie shortly after the battle with the goblins and wargs... :P I think that in the movie they won't have Bard killing smaug, as that would mean introducing another whole character and would probably confuse anyone who hasn't read the book...
