Several sources are reporting part 1 of The Hobbit movie has been postponed by at least a year.
The Shooting of ‘The Hobbit’, which was planned to begin in New Zealand this winter, has been postponed until 2010 - with the release date pushed back to 2012.
However, as yet the cause for the delay is unknown.
Originally the first Hobbit movie was set for a 2011 Christmas release with part 2 the following Christmas.
Update: TheOneRing.Net say they have been in touch with Del Toro and he claims the rumors are unfounded.

As I recall there’s a lawsuit going on right now, that’d be my guess as far as the delay. Hopefully it gives them time to work on it more cause the trailers aren’t looking good.

Trailers? The only trailers I have seen so far were fan-made “copy and paste”-trailers. Not bad as fake trailers, but of course not up to professional standards.

Your right Giorin although there is a pro one doing the rounds that was made for a video game.

Dansey’s Pass Coach Inn is a great place to film some scenes! I was there in 2003 - an old beautiful Inn.

The update at the bottom of this piece mentions that del Toro told TheOneRing.net that the rumors are unfounded. Additionally, the lawsuit is no longer relevant to “The Hobbit” movie, as a judge ruled that the Tolkien Estate could not get the righs back. While the lawsuit is still going on, it doesn’t matter for TH anymore.
