Admittedly, the voice they used for that version of Smaug, (Actor Richard Boone), was well chosen, as was John Huston for Gandalf. But I digress... The voice chosen for this role is of equal importance to the appearance to Smaug. The dialogue is really quite amazing, so it has to be spoken by someone with a large presence.
