Viggo Mortenson Won’t Share Aragorn Role

Viggo Mortenson Won't Share Aragorn Role  | read this item

After John Noble says no, Viggo Mortenson says yes! Viggo admitted to Channel 3 news in New Zealand that he believes his Lord Of The Rings character Aragorn may well have a part in the second of the Hobbit movies and if he does, he wants the part again.

“Obviously if you’ve established a character yourself, you’d rather do it yourself than see another actor do it.”

As we know, Aragon does not make an appearance in The Hobbit but there have been strong rumors the second Hobbit movie would either tell the stories of Aragorn or Gandalf or both. With Sir Ian McKellan already confirmed as returning and now Viggo offering his services it looks like Del Toro has some good news and some scope to play with.

Viggo is the man! only he can bring aragorn to life on the big screen. to see all the original main characters from tlotr on these new films would remind everyone how great those movies were and make these new ones a huge hit. Either way, I can;t wait to see thse movies.

If i remember my tolkien lore right. When Gandalf leaves the dwarves and bilbo in the forest he went off with Aragorn to investigate the “Necromancer” who was hold up in a tower not far from there. It turned out to be Sauran.

They may try to tell this part of Tollkien lore.

They drive Sauron from Mirkwood Forest……and Bilbo tells of it in the Red Book of Westmarch, so he may have been there….

Aragorn also, at Gandalf’s request, searches for Gollum all over Middle Earth and eventually finds him and turns him over to the elves of Mirkwood.

No one can play Aragorn other than Viggo himself. I think he’s a brilliant actor and plays the part extremely well. Although it would be really nice if they squeezed Legolas inside at least in one of the hobbit movies. He’s one of my favorites.

Viggo is great but there simply was no Aragorn in the hobbit. What would he do, come in and have some random conversation with gandalf?
If any character is going to be brought back, that wasn’t actually in the book I think it should be Gimili. He’s a dwarf, it’s somewhat probable that he would be involved in this adventure, but as far as any other character from the other three novels, it just wouldn’t make sense!

Aragorn-Strider definitely could be in the hobbit-for example, resorting at Bree-surely the dwarves must have stopped at the Prancing Pony, or as the “friends-maybe with sons of Elrond ‘ on the road that Gandalf met whol told him about the trolls in “Roast Mutton”.

Gimli-how young would he have been in the Hobbit?

As for rings, Thorin’s father and grandfather had one of the 7, and Gloin, Gimli’s father was with Thorin’s father when he was abducted in Mirkwood and take to Dol Guldur, where the dwarf ring was take from him. Gandalf recovered the map and key but not the dwarf ring.

One other ring issue: Gandalf was wearing one of the Three and Thorin was ring-heir to one of the Seven, so wouldnt it be reasonable that the One Ring was responding to the presence of Gandalf or Thorin in the Orc Mines in the Misty Mountains, rather than to Bilbo on his own?

  13. Cris says:

The three were never touched by the One so they weren’t tainted by it, and the seven were all lost, so The One wouldn’t have knowledge of them.

Another thought, the sequel could include more romance between Aragorn and Arwen…..thinking of the “You promised there’d be no kissing scene grandpa” in The Princess Bride now….

they should film the first bit in new zealand again, because in the lotr that was good for the moor bits but they should film the mirkwood bits in a rainforest. The scenery MADE lotr

i blieve that the silmarillion should be made into a movie. it to me would be a great broadcast and would make great money for box offices and just now that all of the lord of the rings fans just got into it< you leave them hanging with nothing? i would say no…. i know that the hobbit is coming out but to be honest< it probably wont be that interesting. anyways…. im for silmarillion

  17. Robert says:

That would be cool….it might be better done as a TV series like Rome, or a series of movies….using a mix of the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and the Children of Hurin, maybe even stuff from the Lost Tales……I could see a Feanor movie, covering the first two battles, ….plus the Dagor Bragolach and a Beren and Luthien movie and a Turin movie for sure. The Nirnaeth Anoediad could also be a movie in itself, and then one for Tuor and the Fall of Gondolin….so six movies in all….wouldn’t that be awesome

When I first heard that Del Toro was making two movies, I thought he was going to split The Hobbit into two to do it justice. I’m not real comfortable with the idea of crafting an all-new movie based on tidbits from here and there concerning middle earth…

And Aragorn should NOT be in it, since he wasn’t in The Hobbit. Don’t mess with Tolkien!

Hey, iam a fan of Lotr Trio aswell i’ve watched all 3 movies and read the books and the hobbit, it would be nice if aragorn AKA Viggo mortensen would be in the hobbit but at same time it wouldnt be original (just a minor screw up in the 3 movie) it should have been Prince Imrahil that was attending to Eowyns wounds not aragorn but anyways Viggo is from denmark same as me, cheers! xD

Viggo Mortenson must not play a major role in The Hobbit movie, because according to J.R.R. Tolkien’s timeline, Aragorn was only 10 years old when Bilbo found the Ring! He hadn’t even met Arwen yet! Viggo could only play a tiny bit part, maybe an introductory scene with a very old Bilbo telling Aragorn the story, when they met many years later in Rivendell.

The appendices to LOTR has Aragorn, under another name, campaigning in Gondor many years before the events of the war for the Ring.

  22. Stephen says:

Viggo Mortenson was good in LOTR. Together with Ian Mckellan I thought he was the most like one of Tolkien’s Ring Company as described in the books. However there really shouldn’t be parts for any of the LOTR characters in The Hobbit unless specified in the story e.g., Bilbo, Gandalf, Elrond and Gollum.
Mortenson can’t be Aragorn anyway because according to Tolkien’s “Tale of Years” Aragorn was born in the year 2931 and Bilbo set out on his journey in 2941. They could however have a child actor to make a quick appearance as Aragorn in the Rivendell sequences just as a nod to the character as long as they don’t let it get in the way of the story.
As for the second part of the movie that bridges it with LOTR I don’t know how they could incorporate Aragorn because he didn’t meet Gandalf until he was 25 and
he spent most of this time in the wild or in Gondor and Rohan on errantries. Maybe just a quick scene where Gandalf asks him to get the Rangers to keep a close watch on the Shire?
Also I hope Orlando Bloom isn’t asked back because he was possibly the worst of all the cast as Legolas. He really ruined that character and made him look really foppish which they tried to make up for with these incredibly stupid looking stunts and general flashiness. If they must have him let’s just hope they keep him in the Elvenking’s court with the other Woodelves and not do anything. Just a quick shot no more, no less. That’s not to hard for any actor even if their talent is as poor as Bloom’s.
