Doug Jones says he’d play a hemorrhoid if it were Guillermo del Toro making the movie and that he would “follow him anywhere” including he hopes, to Middle Earth. According to his latest interview with MTV it seems Jones has his eye on the part of King Thranduil.
“There’s been lots of speculation. I wouldn’t want to ruin anything. Guillermo creates things with me in mind and he’s got a better image of what I can do than I do,” he told MTV news. “However, there might be an elf king, father of Legolas kind of character that I would love.”
As a further hint Del Toro Joked in an interview on the 25th June at the 34th Annual Saturn Awards that he would find a part for his favorite actor Doug Jones in The Hobbit as long as it was a “very hard role with long hours.”
Doug had the lead role as Abe Sapian in Del Toro’s Hellboy and Hellboy 2 as well as Pale Man in Pans Labyrinth so its fair to assume its pretty much a done deal that a part will be found for him.
“Guillermo definitely needs to make ‘The Hobbit,’ and he needs to make it right. So I want him to take his time on that,” Jones said. “But I also want him to bring me in on it. Are you listening Guillermo?”

until now i didn’t know this actor because i didn’t see pan’s labyrinth! this is a surprise: now i was on his website! he is smart and goodlooking and of course he has superior acting qualities because guillermo del toro chose him for his movies! so i’m really looking forward to see him as the ‘king of the elves’! but now they are again in difficulties with christopher tolkien who wants to stop the ‘hobbit’! i just can hope that he jumps over his shadow and gives green light for this prequel to the greatest movie ever made! there is no time to loose because everybody wants to see sir ian mckellen as gandalf and he is not anymore so young and time flies…… the hobbit without sir ian would be a disaster and also i hope with all my heart that peter jackson shall work closely together with guillermo del toro without letting him out of sight! peter jackson is a universal genious like leonardo da vinci or albert einstein! such personalities are very rare and it would be a waste of money and time and work if he could not unfold his multiple talents, creations, ideas and and and………

Looks like this guy mostly does stuff in which no one could recognize him, but he’s thin and has a long face, so the for an elf all the visual characteristics are there.
You know, now that I think about it, Legolas is actually his son like the article says. It would makes sense to have a small apearance from Orlando.

Thranduil being my favorite character - I tend to be quite protective of him. I am worried about who they will choose to portray him. I just have this image of him in my mind - his looks, his voice, his attitude. I just haven’t seen anybody that looks like he is good enough to play him…
But than again, I know basically nothing about Doug Jones.
