It would be possible if the "Bible like parts" where translated in something practical for the big screen.

@Andacar, your very right. All the people who have bought the books and fell in love with them after the movies came out. The movies IMHO are like really good commercials for the book. The silmarillion is like the old testament in scope and vision. I have always said that since it became my favorite book. They could only take out excerpts from it like the Alkallabeth and tell the story of Numennor because of all the sauron stuff and the Aragorn, White tree, Elendil, and "other stuff" connection. It is the closest connection to the LOTR trilogy and probally the furthest they could go back and still have everything make sense. You don't have to say why they have Andor just that they are there. As far as the ban goes it could be easily explained as an adam and eve don't eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God never says why he just says don't eat! I think the story of numenor is one of the most complete stories in the Silmarillion too.

Plenty of money has made it to the Tolkien trust. Hasn’t seen the movies? What an idiot. Those movies were quite honestly the best films ever made, and he probably thinks they’re bad even though he hasn’t seen them.
Those films are probably the only reason he still has a front door, look how much money they made.

@Caranthir, I think the point is the movies made a lot of money but none of it found its way to the Tolkien trust

As a lover of the Silmarillion (I've read it many times as well as all the supplemental books) I'd love to see someone attempt to portray Valinor, Morgoth, and all the other enchanting visions of the book. On the other hand I am skeptical, as many of you are, that a book of this scope can successfully be brought to the screen. I imagine it would take several movies to do it right. The Silmarillion is not for everybody. It's like reading the Bible in places, and trying to keep track of the characters and their complex relationships defeats many readers. I'll be interested to see how this progresses.

I am split on this one.
