The Return Of The King, Again  | read this item

aragorn.bmpViggo Mortensen looks set for a return to his role as Aragorn son of Arathorn. Once confirmed, he joins Sir Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis who have already agreed to reprise their roles from The Lord Of The Rings movies.

We can only assume (or hope) that Del Toro wants Viggo on board for the second Hobbit movie.

If she has anything to do about it he may yet be joined by Arwin AKA Liv Tyler. When asked if she would be interested if she gets the phone call, Tyler is reported to have told IGN

“Oh, are you kidding? In a heartbeat! I’ll buy my own ticket and be on the plane in a second. I mean, that was a magical experience and it was just a once in a lifetime, amazing thing. Because it was so like… we knew and we didn’t know that it was sort of something that had never been done before, and there was this feeling that was really gung-ho. Like, ‘O.K., let’s go off together!’ And we just rolled our sleeves up. It really was this amazing, crazy, special thing.”

I think she is saying she would be interested. It’s hard to imagine anyone who had a major part in the LOTR who would turn down a chance to return should they get the call apart from perhaps Christopher Lee.

Lee has never understood (and perhaps never forgiven) Peter Jackson cutting the scene showing the fate of Saruman from Return Of The King. Lee is a true Tolkien scholar and was the only person involved in the making of the movies who actually new the author. He saw the cut as nothing more than an attempt to make yet more money by saving it for the extended dvd release.

Apart from Mr. Lee though, I’d guess everyone else is hoping to get the call from Del Toro.

    1) I don’t recall Aragorn being in The Hobbit.

    2. I would love to see Christopher Lee return as Saruman, but at this age, you have to wonder if he will be the same as when he played Saruman ten years ago (they filmed the LOTR trilogy from 1997 - 2000).

    3. Who is going to play Bilbo? I have the same concern for Iam Holme that I do for Christopher Lee — age.

I would love to see the original actors return (as long as their age progression doesn’t detract from the quality of the two new films), but I would not be terribly disappointed if new actors were chosen to play Saruman and Bilbo.

Isnt it about the white council in which saruman is the leader!

    How will they do this

He MUST be in it if it is about dol guldor and the white council

Seeing Viggo again in his role as Aragorn would be sweet! I’d love to see Liv Tyler reprise her Arwen role too. It’s sounding good so far.

I’m still not happy about Del Toro’s attitude towards the LOTR though. He’d better show respect for the story if he wants my money at the box office.

mmmh that would be the same respect Jackson and Walsh showed when butchering Tolkien works! See all depends on your point of view! ;)

Viggo Mortensen in the Hobbit?? Aragorn was NOT in the Hobbit although in the time line he would have been a boy. Arwen was not in the Hobbit although I suppose may have seen her when they were at Rivendell. Saruman was not in the Hobbit although he would have figured in the White Council meeting, so I guess that would be relevant if they did shoot a scene of the Council. Although LOTR series was excellent, Peter Jackson did distort alot of the story, so I assume anything would be possible for the Hobbit.

  8. the story of Aragorn in the appendices of LOTR is beautiful. I wouldn’t mind seeing that converted to film.

i was hoping that the hobbit would be only one film and then have two films for silmarllion . I think the hobbit is a classic but not strong enough for two films without adding sub plots and characters that were not even in the book . i can see a point of having the appendix stories from lotr added but hope it wont spoil the core of the story and deflect the point of making this film

I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF TOLKIEN’S WORKS FOR 30 YEARS” HAVING READ THE HOBBIT AT LEAST 7 TIMES AND LOTR AT LEAST 8 TIMES. MR JACKSON HAD GREAT VISION IN HIS FILMING ,BUT ,HE CHANGED TOO MANY THINGS THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE. PLEASE!!!! DO NOT BUTCHER THE HOBBIT THE SAME WAY.THESE ARE THE GREATEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN ‘ SO DO NOT FIX IT IF IT’S NOT BROKEN.

  11. @james I think the first film is the hobbit as in the book. Bag End to Bag End again. The other one is a “bridging” movie, from the Hobbit to the Fellowship books. This one I’m not so sure about.

@Steve, no need to yell. :)

Where is Aragon in the Hobbit? They only talk of Rangers. No Arwen at all except discussed that she was visiting her Mother’s family. She already had too much of a role in LOTR films. Why more than one Hobbit movie? Especially when a 3hour film is apparently okay for the fan base. The more important casting is Gandalf , Bilbo and Elrond. The dwarves are also important. Let’s make sure the masks doesn’t ruin their eyes like RhysDavis’ Gimli.

Omg great for Viggo! He was such a great actor in that movie! I loved everything he did. Best of luck to Del Toro with The Hobbit. I am so excited. Also, Liv Tyler, you rock. She played such a good role in The Lord of the Rings. I am so happy they chose her. She was perfect! Still, I wonder what they are going to do with two movies. It will be very interesting to watch. I wonder how 12 dwarves will look like on the screen. Imagine 12 Gimlis…ha!

I just hope that Del Toro does a good job with the Hobbit. Lord of the Rings was phenominal and I hope that The Hobbit is just as good, even better. BTW, who will play Bilbo?

there’sa problem with Viggo as Aragorn being in the hobbit movie as aragron was only 10 yrs old when bilbo first came into rivendell and 11 when he came back. i’d like to see them work that.

This hobbit film is a bad idea, just like the new star wars trilogy. They should terminate while there is still time.
