hobbiton.jpgIts a done deal and as Guillermo promised last week, the announcement has just been made via Variety.com

As expected filming will once again be in New Zealand and Del Toro said he would be moving to New Zealand for 4 years while filming the 2 movies so we can expect the first Hobbit movie around Christmas 2011 and the second Hobbit movie the following year.

No suprises then in the announcement with Weta doing all the effects again and the same script team that did Lord Of The Rings will be working with Del Toro, that being Jackson, Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

He leaves for New Zealand once production is complete on his present movie Hellboy 2.

This is GREAT news!!! It feels good to know that things are finally moving forward. I’m really excited about Del Toro directing, and PJ producing/writing. Only 3 1/2 more years….

Still too bad PJ is not directing i havent seen any of GDTs movies so i dont know if his directing styles will go good with tolkiens world and it wouldnt be that goood with the prequil of LOTR being different from the lotr movies

PS if same actors arent chosen where possible (excluding bilbo since the actor is too old) the movie will not be a “SEAMLESS” connection to the lotr movies

Agreed, all spots that it is possible to put actors from the previous movies should be filled with them….

Also it would be nice to see progress on the silmirillion in later years and any other pre-3rd age books
