Guillermo Del Toro has finally broken the silence on the story that he is to direct The Hobbit movies to admit it is not yet confirmed despite many sources jumping the gun and reporting it was a “done deal.” The story broke last week following a French translator introducing Del Toro to the audience as “The Hobbit director.” You can see the video of the introduction of Del Toro here.
Well, the reality is that the Hobbit story has broken early because the negotiations have not ended and The Hobbit is not a sure thing, he tells this month’s Total Film.
The reality is, I will know that it’s happening when we have the final word and I am fully and officially on board.
He also confirms that he would love to do The Hobbit were he to actually get it. You can read the full interview in this month’s Total Film, due out on 21 Feb.

If Jackson isn’t going to direct I would like Del Toro to as I really liked Pan’s Labyrinth

i think peter jackson should direct i have watched lotr extended edition about 7, or 8 times each and i believe they are the cinematic masterpieces of our time i hope that peter jackson directts this film, because as excecutive producer he will not be able to input his ideas as much. I definatly hope these movies will rank up there with the lotr. I am re reading the hobbit to prepare for this movie.

NO PETER JACKSON… I WANT SOMEONE TO TELL PROFESSOR TOLKIEN’S STORY, NOT TAKE IT UPON THEMSELVES TO TELL THEIR OWN VERSION OF IT. I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT JACKSON DOESN’T GET TO MESS THIS UP THE WAY HE MESSED UP THE LORD OF THE RINGS. IT MAY HAVE LOOKED GREAT, BUT IT COULD HAVE LOOKED GREAT AND BEEN TOLD AS THE STORY WAS WRITTEN. JACKSON’S ARROGANCE AT WANTING TO PUT HIS FILTHY FINGERPRINTS ALL OVER THE GREAT STORY AS IT WAS TOLD JUST TO PASS IT OFF AS HIS OWN THING IS MIND-NUMBINGLY FRUSTRATING. ANY TRUE TOLKIEN PURIST KNOWS JACKSON MESSED THE STORY AROUND AND TOLD PETER JACKSON’S LOTR, NOT PROFESSOR TOLKIEN’S LORD OF THE RINGS. HIS OWN IDEAS? SO PETER JACKSON SHOULD STEP ALL OVER A GREAT STORY? WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THIS ONE, WILL ALL THE DWARVES BE MADE TO LOOK LIKE FUMBLING IDIOTS LIKE THEY DID IN RINGS? MAYBE INSTEAD OF SMAUG THE DRAGON, IT COULD BE A HUGE GIANT ROBOT. OR MAYBE INSTEAD OF THE BATTLE OF FIVE ARMIES, JACKSON MIGHT MAKE IT… THE SALVATION ARMY VS. GODZILLA, OR SOME SUCH NONSENSE. PETER JACKSON IS A HACK WHO SHOULD HAVE HIS KNUCKLES SCRAPED ON CONCRETE ONE DAY FOR EVERY MISSTEP HE MADE WITH THE TRILOGY. PLEASE DON’T LET HIM FOUL THE WATERS ON THIS ONE TOO!

jeff - peter jackson did a fine job on the lotr movies. yes, he left things out, and that’s a major bummer.
but he made it appealing to both tolkien fans and regular moviegoers alike.
of course things will be left out or changed slightly. that’s how it is with any movie based on a book or comic book or graphic novel or anything. you’ve got to make sure that everyone’s going to want to see it, not just the die-hard fans.
but i have to say, the salvation army vs godzilla sounds like a blast.

Peter JAckson did a great job qwith the lotr The books are very long and not all of the material could fit in a 2 and a half hour movie. if the movies wer any longer than no one would want to see them! Sure id have liked to see the barrow downs and tom bobadil but it would not fit and peter jacksoin did a good job of fight scenes like moria the book describes it shortly and dryly PJ did a good job creating actionious great scenes!
