Everyone appears to be getting excited about the above video which just appeared on Youtube.com and apparently has the French translator announcing “Today it is our pleasure to announce something that everyone was hoping for, Guillermo will direct The Hobbit”
This is followed by lots of clapping. It was filmed last night (Jan 29th) at the premiere of Del Toro’s “The Orphanage” in Paris.
If, or as I believe “When” Del Toro is announced as director of The Hobbit, it will come from the top and probably with lots of fanfare. Don’t expect an announcement though until the writers strike ends. Until that’s over, no one can confirm anything because the dates are not set in stone.

Of course Del Toro knows what she is saying… She is just translating from the little guy speaking spanish, and believe me Guillermo understands Spanish perfectly. Anyway I think this is almost oficcial, nobody would say something like that in public without being 100% sure, however as you said, lets wait until the writers strike ends for the official announcement.

So many things I wonder about the prequel of LOTR. No one have write this prequel story or produce the prequel film. I think is story is more interesting than The Hobbit. Tolkien doesn’t discuss much about the prequel. He mentioned it briefly in the fellow ship of the ring. Some of clues we can get in the “The Silmarillion”. http://engr-jaizovic.blogspot.com/

[...] Guillermo Del Toro has finally broken the silence to admit The Hobbit movies are not yet confirmed despite many sources jumping the gun and reporting it was a “done deal.” The story broke last week following a French translator introducing Del Toro to the audience as “The Hobbit director.” You can see the video of the introduction of Del Toro here. Only Peter Jackson can do this. I don’t trust anyone else.

While I love Hellboy, Panns Lab,et al, I am Really NOT sure that he can treat the Hobbit as Sypathetically As Jackson did the LOTR movies.
Is he as much of a fan of Tolkien as Jackson is?
This film can really only be made by someone with the same respect for Tolkien as Jackson had.
Does Del Toro fall into this catagory?
Or is he just the “flavour of the month” Fantasy director whose name has been “pulled out of the hat” as one that could do the job? COME BACK JACKSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
