Del Toro Out Of The Running For Deathly Hallows

Del Toro Out Of The Running For Deathly Hallows  | read this item

Following all the rumors yesterday that Guillermo Del Toro was in talks to direct The Hobbit movie 1 and 2, the producer of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows (David Heyman) fuelled the flames when last night?he stated Del Toro was now too busy to be considered for the Deathly Hallows directors post.

Last night, Heyman when asked to comment on the rumors that Del Toro was getting The Hobbit movie and how it effected his chances of doing the last Harry Potter movie, he said “Del Toro was sadly not really in the running because he’s rather busy.”

You would have to assume Heyman is up to speed with Del Toro’s plans and so I would take this as another reason to believe he will be announced as The Hobbit director soon.

The news that Del Toro will be directing The Hobbit got a mixed reaction throughout the web yesterday. Some support from fantasy movie fans but not so strong from the Tolkien purists. MarketSaw has softened on its stance that Jackson will soon be announced director although still claims it is very possible.

My personal thoughts are that Jackson has been appointed as nothing more than a fan pleaser. New Line and Jackson left it far too late to mend the fences, with PJ fully committed to other major projects by the time an agreement was reached and New Line’s rights to The Hobbit quickly running out.

Lets not forget what the original problem was: New Line refused to settle until Jackson agreed to do The Hobbit and Jackson refused to agree to do The Hobbit until New Line settled- Stalemate. New Line announce The Hobbit will be made without Jackson but fans scream sacrilage. Worse for New Line, one by one LOTR cast members come out in support of PJ, dropping major hints they would only be interested in returning if Jackson was involved.

Then last month with time running out, New Line suddenly settle and announce Jackson will indeed be on board for The Hobbit with a role of?(cough) producer with overall artistic control.

New Line have to make the movie now before they lose the rights and if you accept Jackson simply cannot find the time to make the movies, Del Toro is a very good second option.

I hope Jackson DOESN’T do the Hobbit. The LOTR movies may have LOOKED good but it Professor Tolkien’s story. PERIOD!!!! Those “Tolkien purists” I keep hearing about who WANT Jackson to direct can’t be any “Tolkien purist” of which I’m aware. LOTR, visually stunning but NOT the story, end of discussion. Argue all you want, if anyone wants a point by point list of how Jackson told his own story, then, you’ll get it and take your lessons with vinegar. Peter Jackson was wrong, wrong, wrong. And the reason he’s NOT doing The Hobbit has nothing to do with “settling” or anything else. The people involved with The Hobbit KNOW Jackson did Professor Tolkien’s story wrong and they don’t want the wrongdoing to continue.

    that’s a bummer.
del toro would have been swell for the deathly hallows.
    but it’s all good.
i’m just hoping whoever they get doesn’t botch it up as bad as the rest of the HP movies.

Well that stinks though, because then the same director might do it.
