Guillermo Del Toro In Talks For The Hobbit Job

Guillermo Del Toro In Talks For The Hobbit Job  | read this item

Sources in New Zealand and now Hollywood claim Del Toro is?currently in talks to direct both hobbit movies with Jackson having approval over creative elements of the two movies.

Del Toro was shortlisted as one of only a select few who the money men consider a safe pair of hands. No stranger to the fantasy genre with movies under his belt like Hellboy, Blade 2 and Pan’s Labyrinth, he is seen by New Line and MGM as someone who both understands the almost fanatical fan base culture and to a certain extent, has its respect.

Del Toro is currently putting the finishing touches to Hellboy 2 which is set for release this summer and if he does get The Hobbit job, his latest offering is bound to come under extra scrutiny from Tolkien fans.

As previously reported, Guillermo Del Toro soon made it known he would love the job and is a known admirer of both Jackson and the Weta workshop in New Zealand and would be preferred by Jackson rather than an established director where artistic clashes would be much more likely.

Happy? No way! This is the guy who said he could not finish LOTR! He doesnt understand Tolkien and he wont do this properly. A disaster.

Not to worry! We believe this to be merely a publicity stunt to build up more groundswell for a Peter Jackson announcement that he indeed is going to helm The Hobbit(s) - in 3D no less.

No worries here. Read more on http://www.MarketSaw.com - the leader in 3D movies and inside information.

    Hi Jim

Yes, I read and linked to your post a while a go. You may be on to somethin g with the 3D story but i’m 99% sure Jackson won’t be changing his mind.

As I always say: “We shall see what we shall see” - and we could be wrong about all of this. I hope not, and not just on a professional level - I honestly think that any other director is a mistake on a huge level. I mean that if for some reason someone other than PJ directs (and (co)writes for that matter!) than the bottomline is The Hobbit(s) make $100 million to $150 million LESS than if he did direct them. These movies are a BIG deal and not just for the fans! There is significant money here and the residual clout in Hollywood from making a huge hit cannot be overlooked. Bring in a director that is busier than PJ, who has never had this sort of budget -or- filmed two concurrent movies, or has had a control freak looking over his shoulder (sorry Peter!), who has the distractions of wanting to do Frankenstein and Harry Potter and who, lets face it, is not a true blue Tolkien fan - it is all hogwash.

That being said, I must say that both Del Toro and PJ are excellent publicists!!

From what I am hearing PJ may not even be involved in the writing although it will have to be OK’d by him once done. The guy is way too busy and New Line left it too close to the deadline to sort out there spat.

Hey everyone, okay i think ady is right about new line and they should of sorted this out earlier… my opinion is PJ should direct this hands down!!!! Don’t get me wrong del torro is great and should be directing the harry potter movie(s) whatever i just think jackson should be a major part in this movie because for true Tolkien fans id be pretty mad if this turned into a huge mistake! okay big whoop 3D i mean i just want them to come out before my time on this earth is done with (I’m only 14)…… this being said the date right now thats an estimate is 2010!!! How can i wait much longer New line????? All this talk about it is making me wish New line would be smart about it!!! They were when they Trusted PJ with the LOTR when nobody else would and look at them now they have made some of the best movies of all time. (my favorite) Im not saying wait for Jackson to finish all the other movies in his path right now but put him in a very important position in the making of the Hobbit Movie(s)!!!!
