Sam Raimi held a press conference in Los Angeles today to promote his latest movie ‘30 Days Of Night’ and ended up throwing his hat in the ring for The Hobbit movie should Jackson not direct.
Raimi told reporters, “There’s no better choice to direct ‘The Hobbit’ than Peter Jackson. I’m a fan of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy and Peter Jackson’s a brilliant filmmaker and he would be the guy I think everybody would love see direct it. And I hear they are talking, too, from what I read in the trades. I don’t really know first hand, hopefully he will direct it and give us his great version of it. If he doesn’t direct it and decides to produce it, I’d love to be considered as the director.”
This is the second time Raimi has talked about doing The Hobbit movie. Back end of July he hinted he and New Line were already having talks although that was before Bob Shaye and Peter Jackson started acting like adults again.

I guess it makes sence that anyone would want to be involved in such a film, whether it be as director and/or producer… certainly a film like this could be an absolute classic.
