The debate over who directs or rather, why Jackson should direct, continues on forums frequented by Middle Earth’s finest. I must admit I don’t think it matters that much as long as they remain true to the book, I will be happy.

As I tried to explain to a lovely Elvan girl (who it must be said, got rather hot under the collar) on one of the forums “if we were waiting for the fiming to start of “The Return Of The King” and they announced Peter Jackson, having done the first 2 films would not be finishing the trilogy, I would understand the fuss, in fact I’d be up in arms myself!

He did a great job with The Lord Of The Rings but The Hobbit movie shouldn’t be made in the same style or dark mood. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit for children and as such it is a much lighter story.

If you think about it, Peter Jackson was probably on a hiding to nothing if he did make The Hobbit movie. If he stayed true to the book, the Tolkien fans love him but the LOTR movie fans slate it. If he were to make it in the style of his LOTR movies to keep those fans happy, he gets slated by the Tolkien fans. Your better off out of it mate!

Why not just make it halfway between the “true” version and the “drama” version, like the LOTR movie was?
